Clinical Team - Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA
Patricia L Blount M.D. joined the Seattle Barrett's Esophagus Program in 1988. Her research has demonstrated that inactivation of the p53 gene was an early event that preceded the development of aneuploidy and cancer in Barrett's esophagus. Dr. Blount leads the clinical research team and is the principal endoscopist for the Program. Drs. Levine, Reid and Blount have shown that the systematic protocol of endoscopic biopsies that was developed by the Seattle Barrett's Esophagus Program can detect cancers when they are early and curable. The development of interventions to prevent cancer in Barrett's esophagus is a major goal of the clinical research team led by Dr. Blount.

Kamran Ayub M.D. joined the Clincial Team of the Seattle Barrett's Esophagus Program as a study endoscopist in 2002. He is a board certified gastroenterologist who also practices at the Virginia Mason Medical Center.

Christine Karlsen is the Patient Care Coordinator and joined the Seattle Barrett's Esophagus Program in 1996. She is located at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and serves as a liaison between the public and the research program.
